Moder cloth nappies, all things sewing

I love to op shop and recreate 28/04/2009

Filed under: material, wahm — mysmartypants @ 3:04 am

I went the op shop on Friday without the little ones and I was surprised that after living in this area for 2 years and visiting the op shope FREQUENTLY! I found a whole section I had never taken the time to look  at….I just always rush to the toys to keep the kiddies happy!

I got some beautiful things and was soooo wishing my op shopping loving  beautiful friend Elke was with me to share my joy….oh how I miss her!

I got these beautiful napkin holders (still in their original box and plastic!), img_5023

2 wooden trains, how I love wooden toys, so does Jarrahson!img_5025

I got some beautiful clothes, one off original things, for me, Zahara and even Daniel!

I also got a single sheet, we needed some more as we only have 1 and I just couldn’t leave the material there, it captured my attention. When I was putting the clothing items in the machine to wash I just couldn’t bring myself to leave it as a sheet that would hardly be used and then covered with a blanket……so I made myself these!img_5017

So simple, took me all of about 15 mins to make and they actually fit me! Not bad for $2.50 and now what to do with the feft over material?

Designer washable Breastpads $10 a pair 27/04/2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mysmartypants @ 5:47 am

I have been sewing and selling my breastpads for some time now and they are a sure hit! Soft, reusable, absorbant and overall cheaper then disposables!
So now I have a new range on offer….designer breastpads, made from 100% designer cottons making a feminine product beautiful and pretty!
The breastpad composes of an outter layer of microfleece (super soft, non absorbant, wicking material that I also use in making my Smarty Pants Nappies), 2 inner layers of absorbant, anti bacterial bamboo and an outter layer of 100% cotton.
You can choose from any of the following designer cottons

Making the time 22/04/2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mysmartypants @ 8:28 am

In order to make my life a little less stressed (yeah right!) I have decided to set my sewing for Smarty Pants to be souly at nights and 3 hours on the weekend.

I have found myself sewing the minute the kiddies were resting/asleep or busy playing independently. So with this in mind I have had a lovely time sewing for fun, not for work.

A beautiful special friend of mine welcomed her 2nd child, a precious girl into the world on Moday and I got sewing like a mad aunty would! I made her a simple throw blanket, flannelette on one side and shabby purple on the otherimg_4933a wetbag for soiled clothing/cloth nappies and am hoping to get the chance to make her a little pair of pants, like these ones I made my possums!

Zahara L.O.V.E.S her pants img_4930and has ordered another pair with all stars, little purple frill (twist arm…OK!). As for Jarrahson’s I think I will get busy making him a few pairs of these, so soft and warm.img_49281

All these were made from material I have had sitting in my ‘will be useful one day ‘pile….and so they have been!

As for Smarty Pants sewing…I am F.L.A.T chat…good but busy. With our trip away this weekend I am going to miss the Bangalow markets which is a shame, but it will give me the chance to catch up…..hopefully!

Smarty Pants Wetbags $10 15/04/2009

So what do you do with your dirty Smarty Pants nappies if you are out and about?

You put them in your waterproof, beautiful print Smarty Pants wetbag. These bags are made from waterproofed PUL materials and are big enough to fit in about 3 nappies. It is secured with velcro to keep the nappies and the smell in.

Simply wash with your nappies and hang inside outo to dry! This means no more ugly disposable plastic bags, great for the environment and saves you $ over time, not to mention the materials are so very cute (we actually have a few of these bags in a larger form for wet swimmers to come home!).smarty-pants-012

New designer materials 15/04/2009

I have had a good clean out of my sewing cabinet and have finally got all my materials in order!

With my talented sister her (she’s a photographer….check her out here) visiting on holidays I asked her to take some shots of my materials so you can get the full idea of the pattern….AMAZING! how when someones knows what to do the difference it makes.

My designer nappies are fully waterproof as they are lined with a layer of PUL, hidden in between the designer cotton and the super soft microfleece.

The cotton is so plyable making for a nice fitted nappy and decreasing the likelihood of leaks. As with all things cotton, it will with stand lots of washes and dry fast.

All nappies come complete with a bamboo liner all ready to be used!

A 6 pack of designers cost

small 138

medium 154

large 161

You can choose any combination of materials, all one pattern, or all different…just let me know your choice and I will get sewing for you!
