I am now mature and sensible…REALLY??? How boring! 01/11/2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mysmartypants @ 9:18 am

Well our holiday was cut short by my dear Husband, much to my dissappointment, but he said it was not open for discussion and I had to trust him…and I did!
I woke Thrusday morning ( I am not a morning person) to the demands ” you have 20 mins to pack your bag and we are leaving!”

OHHHHHH!!!! I was so excited, 20 mins! I can’t get it all done by then….little did I know that after I fell asleep the night before Dh packed everything, kids clothes, food and all!! oh, and the surf board! of course!!!

I was SUPER impressed when the family birthday banner was remembered by DH!!009

Then we packed the belongings and the bikes and he typed into my new GPS (present from my MIL and FIL) Alexandra Heads…I was so excited, a beach escape for my 30th!

The resort was so beautiful, family friendly and central to everything. Zahara took us to the shops as she had chosen a birthday present for me, pearl earrings! I was so stoked, and she was so very excited.

I should mention I got my big present from Dh a few days earlier…..a beautiful ceremic water purifier, something I have been requesting for years now. And the water tastes so pure.

On the day of my actual birthday Dh took us all up to Montville, in the mountains where we wondered through the unique shops and had yummy lunch.007

The next day while Jarrahson was asleep and Dh was swimming with Hara I was relaxing on the balcony eating some yummo chocolate when I saw my most beautiful friend come around the corner…..I was crying, tears of joy and thankfullness, I am a lucky girl!!

I still can not believe that Dh organised for my beautiful friends to come the 3 hr treck, and that my beautiful friends came all that way to share my birthday! I am so very lucky and feel so fortunate to have them in our lives, they are priceless and I love them to bits xxxxx after my friend arrived we went for a day of op shopping….now I mean these op shops were HUGE. I suffered nervous sweat and E suffered butterflies, we were so very overwhelmed, but it was all worth it in the end when we arrived home to show our Husbands our fantastic finds!

Overall I had a great 30th and although I was not too keen on turning 30 it is really just a number and I have to say this is the happiest birthday i have ever celebrated, and that’s a BIG call as all my birthdays have been memoriable. TO be surrounded by my wonderful husband, 2 precious children and my bestest friend in the world!014

Our road trip 09/10/2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mysmartypants @ 4:41 am

Well we are on day 6 of our road trip and really having such a lovely family time..

We started in Bellingen for our beautiful friends wedding …Chelle looked like a timeless, classic bride with her beautiful little miracle baby bump all snug in vintage looking lace. It was such a lovely setting and everyone seemed to really have a great time. Sadly my night ended with a projectile vomit…..NO!! Before you think terrible drinking habits on my behalf I swear I did not have a single drop of alcohol…seems I had a miragraine, something that is happening more and more these days YUCK!!!

Then we hopped from national park to National park, experiencing the true roughing it…Zahara rthought in the beginning we were joing about bush wees, now she want to bush we in the main street!

We are now in FREEZING cold Stanthorpe and looking forward to getting to the coast tomorrow not only to see my delicious friend and her precious family, but to get some sun on us!!

It’s odd for us to go away on holidays and not spent the whole time getting a tan…I think we will go home whiter then we left!

Here’s some pics to share…..more to come with Australia Zoo on Saturday!

The Boy gets a new hat! 01/10/2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mysmartypants @ 3:13 am

I have a thing about buying new patterns, they are so expensive, tend to only get used a few times, and are made on a tonne of paper. It also meets my love of op shopping so I tend to get them second hand, borrow them, or make patterns off clothing I already have.

I attempted to make Zahara a hat awhile back and it was a distaster! Bless her, she loved it declaring it was a chef hat! And YES it does get worn every time we cook. I had another shot and YIPPEEE! It worked out! I will have to post a photo of it another time as she is ‘resting’ at the moment.

So I was desperate to make Jarrahson one as he needs a bigger size and they are not handed on very often from others. I refused to pay for one.

So I set about with a pattern, and with my ever patient husband’s help we did it and we are so happy with the results!

022

So much so that I made another one last night, this time with a wider brim and thicker material.

I also made the kids (and their 4 cousins!) some quick and simple capes, nothing fancy here, but I just HAD to post this full flight picture of Jarrahson! How sweet is this.007

We are heading off on the weekend on a camping adventure..so very exciting and looking forward to some family time, been a long time coming, Dh only took 4 days off when Jarrahson was born some 14 months ago!

Along the way we are meeting with my dearest friend and seeing her sweet little boy and precious new baby girl…..I have made a little gift for her, some new bibs, sweet prints and practical!

more to come….look out for some ‘on the road’ updates as we travel this great land of ours!

a few things to share! 27/09/2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mysmartypants @ 11:31 am

I have a few bits and bobs I need to share with you.

Firstly something a bit funny. When we moved into our new house in the garden, right near the front door was this emu, ugly and in the road. We are getting sewage connected and one of the workers commented on the emu. We had placed ‘Esme” as I called her, out the front fence as we wanted her to ‘fly’ down the street. We had even thought for funnies to put her on Dh’s aunty and uncle’s lawn! Well the sewage worker LOVed her. I told him if he could lift her, he could have her……here she in on the journey to her new home!

006

Quite some time ago I made Zahara this dress, 002001it was a single sheet I got from the op shop. I used the bottom of the sheet to make the scollop detail…I am very pleased how it all worked. What she insisted on was a house inside the pocket..here she is ’showing’ the house!004

Firstly the presents I have created…..little booties and 2 little bibs….simple yet cute and sweet.013

Here’s a front and back view of the bibs

Summer is on its way!! 16/09/2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mysmartypants @ 5:26 am

Spring is in the air and summer is on its way.

Today we went to a friend’s house (mad chook lady!) and learn a lot about chickens. We have ourselves some fertile eggs and a friends clucky chicken to sit on them for us!

It’s truely amazing as we will be away when they are due to hatch so as long as they are turned twice a day and not refrigerated we can wait upto 2 weeks before we put them under a Mumma! which means not only will we be back from our holidays but it will be the day before my 30th birthday! How exciting is it!!

To celebrate spring my sewing has taken on a new look, I am craving all things floral and light.

I made Zahara this beautiful headband…so quick and simple, and so sweet..her hair is getting so long. I have made one for me too, and some for birthday presents.

With summer in mind the little ones have also started to want icy poles…another season, another icy pole holder! This is so crazy simple to whip up with a seconds plea (PLEaseeeee Mumma!) but they are ever so handy, it saves the kiddies hand from freezing and you from having to wash a thousand washers! It was so exciting that Jarrahson is big enough to have one this spring

Fabric buckets 13/09/2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — mysmartypants @ 6:24 am

I have been wanting to make these fabric buckets for quite some, but haven’t had the material jusmp out and say “use me!” So I kept putting it off.

Then I ‘found’ the inner red material in my material pile and just knew I had to make it the liner on some funky buckets.

They are actually quite fiddley to make, with lots of ironing and small seam, but if I make a few of them I am certain I will get the idea.

Remember if you like any of my products I share here, I am able to make them for you, in your colour choice ….or for a gift, just email me

Also the little birdies and camera cases are for sale…everything is!

I also wanted to add onto this post a little outfit I made for J to wear our nephews Naming day…it is so very cute and a little baby outfit, I just really am not a fan of how little boys clothes are covered with skulls and crossbones! Innocent all the way!

Trying to get a decent photo is a challenge! and on the hanger it looks nothing.
